The Customer

ENYSE is a railroad signaling company based in Madrid, Spain. For ENYSE, the success of its projects is based on a high level of adaptation to the functional and operational requirements of the different railroads. In an industry that increasingly integrates technology standards, the required standards for reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety do not only apply at the system design level, but are the very prerequisites for the proper implementation and commissioning of turnkey signaling projects. ENYSE works in all phases of a project, from concept and design to manufacturing and maintenance of safety equipment, both for its own and purchased technologies.

The Challenge

EUROBLOCK23 is a state-of-the-art platform capable of integrating ENYSE's Electronic Interlocking System (EIS) and the Radio Block Centre (RBC). It provides the functionalities of ERTMS for both Level 2 and Level 3, which are currently under development.

These systems require SIL4 certification according to CENELEC. This results in high requirements for software verification and testing which include dynamic analysis and testing, traceability, code coverage measurement, and functional or black box testing.

The Solution

ENYSE uses the VectorCAST embedded test platform for automated test case creation and management and code coverage measurement.

In doing so, VectorCAST enables efficient collaboration on test activities, accelerates test execution, and displays up-to-date metrics on test case status and code coverage.

The Advantages

VectorCAST is certified by TÜV Süd for the development of safety-critical software in rail systems and has been successfully used in rail technology projects for more than 20 years:

  • It provides tool qualification documents (TOR and TQD) for facilitated certification with certification authorities
  • It supports structural code coverage capture and reporting on from SIL1 to SIL4
  • It perfectly integrates and automates with the build system and existing test infrastructure at ENYSE
  • Application internals can be monitored and defects injected via probe points
  • Change-based testing efficiently reduces the required test time by only running tests that are affected by code changes
