The AURIX TC4x microcontrollers are equipped with the newly developed Cyber Security Satellite (CSS). Vector's MICROSAR HSM firmware already supports this new technology. This provides ECU developers with a powerful solution for hardware-accelerated calculation of crypto operations.

The AURIX TC4x family complies with the latest cybersecurity standards such as ISO/SAE 21434. The cybersecurity concept prevents performance bottlenecks in fast and secure communication and supports post-quantum cryptography. The CSS provides accelerators for encryption services that can be executed in parallel. Vector's MICROSAR HSM supports hardware acceleration of crypto algorithms by the CSS.

The crypto satellite is addressed directly by a MICROSAR Classic crypto driver on the host CPU, thus achieving maximum throughput and avoiding delays caused by inter-process communication with the CSS. Key management between the CSS and the Cyber Security Realtime Module (CSRM) is performed by MICROSAR HSM. This architecture enables a significant increase in performance compared to traditional crypto hardware acceleration in hardware security modules (HSMs).

This sophisticated and powerful solution has already proven itself in prototype projects.

The new cybersecurity concept meets the requirements of future software-defined vehicles, for example by supporting SOTA (Software over the air) application scenarios that require fast, safe and secured distribution of software updates from the cloud and within the in-vehicle network. Along with that, communication protocols with authentication and authenticated encryption are supported, which are gaining importance in future platforms.
