Service-Oriented Vehicle Diagnostics (SOVD) provides a unified API for diagnostics in both software-based and traditional mechatronic vehicles. At the core of the toolchain is the new SOVD Explorer, a diagnostic tool designed for individual vehicle components as well as the entire vehicle. Specifically tailored to the SOVD standard, it assists developers both in using SOVD and in reading and writing vehicle data via SOVD. By providing intuitive access to all available SOVD API functions, a structured view of the vehicle’s status, and automation options, the SOVD Explorer simplifies the development of diagnostic systems for future software-defined vehicles. 

To facilitate adoption of SOVD, Vector provides a three-step implementation model. In the first step, SOVD concepts can be tested on existing UDS-based vehicles without requiring any modifications to the vehicle. In the second step, the technology is tested directly within the vehicle network to evaluate performance and resource consumption. Finally, the SOVD stack is fully integrated into the vehicle architecture. The Vector SOVD Starter Kit supports a quick start and includes the SOVD Explorer together with the SOVD Classic Diagnostic Adapter.
