Service-oriented Vehicle Diagnostics (SOVD) provides a standardized API for diagnosing new software-based and traditional mechatronic vehicles.

The use of proven basic technologies opens up a wide range of possibilities for the practical application of diagnostics.

Vector's leading involvement in ASAM and ISO, as well as its active role in shaping the SOVD standard, ensures that the latest expert knowledge is directly incorporated into Vector's products and solutions.

SOVD Solution

The development of vehicles based on SOVD (ASAM SOVD / ISO17978-3) requires a holistic approach and the use of suitable tools.

Vector provides a comprehensive solution for this – from SOVD authoring and the realization in the vehicle to the validation of the SOVD API and its use in the SOVD-based Explorer.

In addition, Vector supports you in your first SOVD projects with training, technical consulting, and a wide range of engineering services, such as a jointly developed proof of concept.

SOVD IN-vehicle Tool Chain
Scalable in-vehicle reference architecture for SOVD

A scalable vehicle reference architecture is based on the following embedded software components:

  • SOVD Gateway as a central entry point: handles requests internally to the correct endpoints
  • SOVD Classic Diagnostic Adapter: Central translator between classic UDS-based diagnostics and the web-based SOVD API
  • Diagnostic Manager: Integration of SOVD into AUTOSAR adaptive applications using known and new ara::diag (C++) interfaces
  • SOVD Library for convenient implementation of SOVD functions even without a complete AUTOSAR environment

With the Vector SOVD Classic Diagnostic Adapter, existing UDS-based vehicles can be easily integrated into modern SOVD tool chains – even outside the vehicle.

Thanks to its flexible usage options (wired or remote), you can connect any existing vehicle, provide the appropriate ODX data, and work directly with the new SOVD tools – without making any changes to the UDS-based vehicle itself.

The adapter forms the ideal bridge between proven UDS vehicle technology and the future-oriented SOVD world.

Quick Start to SOVD

Getting started with this new diagnostic technology can be easily done in three steps:

Vector SOVD Starter-Kit: Evaluation of SOVD using UDS-based vehicles
  • Get started quickly and easily with a UDS-based vehicle.
  • Connect the SOVD Classic Diagnostic Adapter outside the vehicle to a production vehicle.

Practical application:

Use the Vector SOVD Starter-Kit to evaluate SOVD using UDS-based vehicles.

The Starter-Kit consists of:

  • SOVD Explorer: SOVD-based development tester for direct access to the SOVD API
  • SOVD Classic Diagnostic Adapter
  • Converter to support the generation of runtime files (dtl) based on CDD or ODX files
