DO-178/ED12 Qualification Kit for VectorCAST

Qualify VectorCAST for Use on DO-178 and ED-12 Programs

DO-178/ED-12, Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification, is jointly published by RTCA and EUROCAE. It is the primary document by which aviation certification authorities, including the FAA in the United States and EASA in Europe, approve commercial software-based aerospace systems.

Compliance with the objectives of DO-178/ED-12 is the primary means of obtaining approval for software used in civil aviation products. The VectorCAST platform addresses the automation of the software verification process as defined by DO-178B/ED-12B and DO-178C/ED-12C.

The VectorCAST Tool Qualification Package

The VectorCAST Tool Qualification Package for DO-178B and DO-178C contains tool qualification documentation, test cases, and procedures that let you qualify VectorCAST tools on projects based on the DO-178B/ED-12B or DO-178C/ED-12C standard.

The package contains the Tool Operational Requirements (TOR) document and Tool Qualification Document (TQD), along with other documents required by DO-330. With the package, development organizations can streamline certification of their embedded systems developed using VectorCAST.

Package Contents:

  • Tool Operational Requirements (TOR) document
  • Developer Tool Qualification Plan (TQP)
  • Developer Tool Configuration Index (TCI)
  • Developer Tool Accomplishment Summary (TAS)
  • Tool Qualification Document (TQD)
  • Tool qualification test cases
  • Tool qualification procedures
  • Additional documents required by DO-330
  • Python-driven test suite

Advantages

  • Streamline your certification program

The Tool Qualification Package provides the documentation, test cases, and procedures required by DO-330. You get a structured starting point rather than building qualification evidence from scratch.

  • Qualification tailored to your operational environment

Vector customizes the package to your specific operational environment. The resulting TOR and TQD reflect your actual configuration, not a generic template.

  • Covers both DO-178B/ED-12B and DO-178C/ED-12C

Separate qualification packages are available for both versions of the standard, so your program uses the documentation appropriate to your certification basis.

  • Vector executes the qualification test cases with you

Qualification test case execution is supported by Vector. Test case results are provided to Vector, who then produces the candidate TOR and TQD containing qualification results and limitations.

Working with the Tool Qualification Package

To use the VectorCAST DO-178B/ED-12B Tool Qualification Package, follow these steps:

  1. Submit a request form with the necessary information to Vector.

  2. Provide Vector with the VectorCAST configuration file for the Operational Environment for which the tool is being qualified.

  3. Vector provides a customized Qualification Package for the specified Operational Environment.

  4. Provide the Certification Authorities with a Tool Qualification Plan.

  5. Document the Tool Operational Requirements (provided in the VectorCAST TOR).

  6. Verify that the tool satisfies the operational requirements.

  7. Execute the Qualification Test Cases with support from Vector.

  8. Provide the Test Case Results to Vector.

  9. Determine and document tool limitations.

  10. Vector provides a candidate TOR and TQD containing the qualification results and limitations.

  11. Review the TOR and TQD and provide feedback to Vector if any changes are required.

  12. Vector provides finalized documents upon approval of review changes.

  13. Provide Certification Authorities with the finalized TOR and TQD.
