VN8900

Modular FlexRay/CAN FD/LIN/J1708/K-Line Network Interface

The VN8900 is a modular Network Interface with various possible channel combinations for CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, J1708 and K‑Line. 
Its design focus is on parallel access to multiple bus channels and I/Os while meeting high demands for real‑time behavior and low latencies, including standalone operating mode.

Highlights

  • Standalone operation: Integrated keypad enables autonomous operation without an external PC; configuration is easily performed via USB plug & play or Ethernet interface.
  • Integrated real‑time processing: On‑board real‑time computer with synchronized interfaces and a time stamp accuracy of 1 µs ensures minimal latency and deterministic real‑time behavior, even with parallel access.
  • Modular channel concept: Interchangeable transceivers support a wide range of channel combinations for different bus physics.
  • High tool performance: Optimized for CANoe, CANape and CANalyzer with access to CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, LIN, J1708 and K‑Line. 
  • Real‑time bypassing & rapid prototyping: Supports real‑time bypassing and rapid‑prototyping use cases in combination with CANape.

Base Units and Plugin Modules

A VN8900 system consists of a base unit and a plugin module.

Base Units
  • VN8911: Base unit with integrated Intel ATOM processor.
  • VN8917High‑performance base unit with integrated 11th‑generation Intel XEON processor.

The base units include Extended Real Time (ERT), which improves the latency and determinism of CANoe and CANape and executes predefined functions under real‑time conditions.
In addition, the base units provide integrated mass storage: VN8911 with 60 GB CFast and VN8917 with 80 GB SSD.

Plugin Modules
  • VN8970 / VN8972: FlexRay/CAN/CAN FD/LIN/J1708/K‑Line modules with analog and digital I/O expandability.

Main Application Areas

VN8911

  • Designed for mobile, stationary and standalone applications requiring access to multiple bus channels and I/Os, including environments with voltage dips and extreme temperatures. 

 

VN8917

  • Intended for high‑performance stationary and standalone applications, such as test benches with extensive CANoe configurations or MATLAB simulations and large laboratory test environments. 

 

Ethernet

  • When using VN8900 in conjunction with other Vector Ethernet interfaces, the Use Case Matrix provides guidance for suitable application scenarios.
