Key Functions

The flash download follows OEM requirements and uses the diagnostic protocol. The bootloader includes the communication stack required for the respective bus system.

Overview of all buses

The Bootloader is stored in a protected area of the ECU memory and starts as the first software instance after a reset. It checks whether a flash request is present or a valid application is available. If reprogramming is required, the Bootloader initiates the process, verifies access rights, and, if needed, loads the flash driver from the bus system into the ECU’s RAM. It then erases the existing software and programs the flash memory with the new data received via the bus. After data transfer, it validates the ECU software. If the flash process is interrupted, you can restart it at any time.

Communication with the flash tool runs via the bus-specific communication stack. The Vector Bootloader supports CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet.

The Vector Bootloader includes a flash driver tailored to the hardware platform. It provides system-level routines to reliably erase and program non-volatile memory. All Vector flash drivers are designed for low resource usage.

The programming tool vFlash

vFlash is an easy-to-use tool for programming ECUs. It supports CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet, and more than 200 flash specifications. You can extend it with plugins using the vFlash template concept.

Management of flash data: ODXStudio

ODXStudio is an authoring tool for diagnostic data in ODX format, designed for efficient and user-oriented data management.

The universal measurement and calibration tool from Vector: CANape

Use CANape for flashing via XCP during ECU development.

Configure the Vector Bootloader with DaVinci Configurator Classic or the legacy tool GENy to match your application requirements. You can extend and adapt the functionality further using callback functions.

  • Vector Bootloader as configurable C source code

  • Flash driver for your specific hardware platform

  • Configuration with DaVinci Configurator Classic (license required; in some cases the legacy tool GENy is used)

  • vFlash template for integration with vFlash (vFlash license required)

  • HexView for preparing flash data and containers during development

  • Documentation

Key Features of MICROSAR Bootloader

Supported Hardware and Compilers
MICROSAR Bootloader is largely hardware-independent, providing high flexibility across platforms and project setups. By sharing your required combination of derivatives, compilers and basic software modules at an early stage, you ensure a perfect fit for your specific requirements. This enables Vector to deliver a tailored solution and support a smooth and efficient project start.
