The VN5650 is a powerful Ethernet interface with up to 12 Automotive Ethernet ports designed for in‑vehicle use.
It is suitable for synchronous monitoring of Ethernet networks in combination with other bus systems and provides optimal network access for remaining‑bus simulations as well as Ethernet packet, load and fault generation during tests.
The VN5240 is specifically designed for monitoring and analysis of Ethernet networks.
In combination with the VP6400 smart logging platform, it is particularly suited for recording Ethernet data in vehicles.
Both interfaces can be flexibly equipped with modules from the VNmodule60 series to support different Ethernet physical layers and features.
Highlights
- Flexible configuration: An intuitive hardware concept enables easy adaptation to different test setups.
- Self‑configuration: Automatic configuration at start‑up accelerates deployment. The device configuration can be stored on the interface and activated without a computer connection.
- Parallel data access: Tapped data streams can be accessed via mirroring ports in parallel to host forwarding.
- Robust design: : The housing is engineered for secure in‑vehicle use and standard 19‑inch rack mounting.
- Modular expandability: Physical‑layer modules can be easily exchanged and extended. Free software updates keep the interfaces up to date.
Main Application Areas

Ethernet Monitoring
The VN5650 and VN5240 enable synchronous monitoring of Ethernet networks with precise timestamps.
Mirroring ports provide flexible access to tapped data streams; the data connection of connected nodes remains transparent through the interfaces.

Media Conversion
The data link between 100BASE-T1/1000BASE-T1 and 100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T Physical Layer.

Remaining Bus Simulation (VN5650)
Free configuration of the hardware enables flexible design of the remaining bus simulation with CANoe.Ethernet. The abstraction of the simulation from the network and the replication of topologies is supported.

Direct Access
The VN5650 also allows individual access to each port for tasks such as reprogramming control units, bench testing, or vehicle diagnostics.

Module Options
100/1000BASE-T1
For 100/1000BASE‑T1, link configuration (speed, master/slave) can be set freely or detected automatically (auto‑scan). Link status changes and symbols based on OPEN Alliance TC10 are forwarded transparently (module‑dependent) between TAP link partners (link transparency), and physical bypass relays maintain ECU connectivity even when the interface is powered off. In addition, MACsec‑secured Ethernet frames are supported and handled according to IEEE 802.1AE directly in the Ethernet PHY*
* only with VNmodule60 4AE1G 88Q2221M, MACsec Key Agreement (MKA) does not run natively on the hardware. Vector CANoe or Vector CANape is therefore required.
10BASE-T1S
For 10BASE‑T1S, full access to the multidrop bus line is available, including cycle‑accurate simulation of multiple nodes on a single 10BASE‑T1S port and deep analysis of 10BASE‑T1S networks. All relevant 10BASE‑T1S parameters can be configured directly at the port.
MultiGBASE-T1
For MultiGBASE‑T1, link configuration (speed, master/slave) can be set freely for 2.5GBASE‑T1, 5GBASE‑T1 and 10GBASE‑T1. Forwarding link status changes and symbols based on OPEN Alliance TC10 (link transparency) will be available in a future software update.
1000BASE-T/MultiGBASE-T
For 1000BASE‑T / MultiGBASE‑T, analysis, testing and simulation of standard Ethernet networks are supported. This includes IEEE 100BASE‑TX, 1000BASE‑T, 2.5GBASE‑T, 5GBASE‑T and 10GBASE‑T.
