Use Cases

When the ignition is switched on, the Smart UPS reliably powers the Smart Logger and additional VX and VN interface hardware. It bridges both overvoltages and voltage dips in the vehicle’s electrical system.
VP2110 ensures a stable power supply, bridges voltage fluctuations and guarantees a controlled and clean shutdown in case of undervoltage or power loss.
If the ignition is switched off, the Smart UPS keeps the devices powered for a configurable follow‑up time. It ensures the Smart Logger can stop ongoing measurements and shut down cleanly. If continuous power can no longer be maintained, the Smart UPS initiates an orderly shutdown to avoid data loss.

To begin measuring the vehicle’s electrical system and its ECUs right from the start, the Smart Logger and interface hardware must be powered up before ignition or before the on‑board system wakes up.
The Smart UPS can be remotely woken from stand‑by and switches into pre‑run mode. In this state, it supplies connected loads from its internal energy storage until it can draw power from the vehicle electrical system after ignition is switched on.

There are applications where a measurement should continue for some time after the ignition is turned off. Examples of such applications are measurement of vehicle cool-down phases, measurement of ignition on/off cycles, bridging of short driving breaks, bridging of driver changes

The follow-up state can be used when a Smart Logger is connected to the VP2110 Smart UPS. When entering this state, ignition output and all configured power outputs are enabled. The Smart Logger controls the outputs of the VP2110 Smart UPS and the duration of this state.

This state can be used to measure cool down phases with the connected measuring devices. A Smart Logger can also use this phase to upload files to the cloud or check the cloud for a new configuration.

When all tasks are completed, the Smart Logger initiates shutdown.
